Dorris,CA

The city of Dorris was established as a result of the Southern Pacific Railroad coming through the northern part of Butte Valley. Dorris was named for Presley Dorris of the D Ranch and became incorporated on December 21, 1908.

Highlights of our Community

Dorris maintains a rural hometown friendliness, with family oriented qualities.

In 1996 Dorris Lions Club dedicated the Americas Tallest Flagpole honoring all veterans. The 30X60 flag flying at the top of the 200″ pole is a testament not only to the patriotism of this community it also represents the spirit and pride of a small American town.
The Little League Complex, the Library, the New Centennial History/Sculpture Wall is another example of the volunteerism and spirit of this community.

The City of Dorris has recently been designated, Dorris, California-Gateway to Lower Klamath Our Nations First Waterfowl Refuge, who celebrated its Centennial, 1908-2008 as did the City.

Hwy 97, which runs through the center of Dorris and was recently designated as the Volcanic Legacy Scenic Byway-All American Road in 2002. Dorris is the first City you enter in California traveling south on Highway 97.

The City is surrounded by a diverse recreation base such as Mountain Lakes, streams, forests, bird/wildlife habitat, American Bald Eagle, ducks, geese, pheasants, quail, deer, antelope, elk, to mention a few of the species noted in this area. The view of Mt. Shasta from our valley is awe-inspiring and inspirational to the community.

Our economic agriculture base includes livestock, alfalfa, grain, onion and a major strawberry plant growing industry. Wood manufacturing industry continues in Dorris: which is the Dorris Lumber and Moulding established in the 1924.
